Upcoming Events!

I'll be singing Samuel Barber's "Nuvoletta" this Sunday afternoon, January 24, 2010 at a private recital that is being held for supporters of the Lancaster Chorale.

On Sunday, March 7, 2010 St. John's Choir will be presenting a service of Choral Evensong as part of St. John's Lenten series. My Phos Hilaron, Magnificat, and Nunc dimittis will be featured, and I am currently working on a set of Preces and Responses which I hope to have completed in time for the choir to learn. The anthem will be Purcell's "Evening Hymn."

On Sunday, March 21, 2010 at 4:00 p.m., the Lancaster Chorale is sponsoring a Hymn-Sing at First United Methodist Church. We are asking everyone to bring a food item to be donated to the local food pantry as the cost of admission.

On March 25, 26 & 27 Lancaster High School will be presenting the Musical "Footloose."

Requiem

The Requiem last Sunday went well. I am so proud of all the hard work the choir put in on it, and grateful to two of my voice students who came in to help out in the soprano section. Now we're working on music for the ordination of a former choir member to the priesthood, an Advent Lessons & Carols service, and a special program put on every year in downtown Lancaster, a Candlelight Tour of Historic Churches. And of course, Christmas will be here before we know it.

New Compositions

I have been very busy the past few weeks composing a Requiem Mass setting for my church choir, and a few little halloween pieces for my piano students. I wrote the Requiem in a rush, completing it in less than three days. NOW I need to get caught up on some neglected household chores. Two of my students received their piano pieces today, and they seemed pleased.

Carillon

Paul and I enjoyed a wonderful concert last Saturday afternoon at the Hide-A-Way Hills resort. We got to hear the Mobile Millennium Carillon. If you ever get a chance to get to see this, you'll be thrilled!

Musical Happenings

We're looking forward to having the American Boychoir visit Lancaster on November 6!  They'll be joined by the Southern Ohio Regional Boy's Choir, which was founded last year by Susan Flakes. Susan has been working like mad to get funding for this concert, and accomodations for 28 boys in local homes. Paul and I will be hosting two boys. The American Boychoir was actually started here in Ohio as the Columbus Boy's Choir, so they are on a tour of their roots.

Welcome to My Blog

This is a place where you can get to know me a little better and find out what is going on in the Musical World of Miss Kathy.
I am busy with preparations for my upcoming benefit recital. Trying to decide whether to add another piece, since everything I'm singing is of a very contemplative nature. Do I need a peppier piece?
